Best Days Out in the Peak District
With so many spectacular places to visit in the Peak District it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. It’s for that reason, we put together this list of some of our favorite places to visit in the Peak District.
Chatsworth House
Sat on over 1000 acres of parkland and situated overlooking the River Derwent, Chatsworth House is one of the nicest spots to visit around the Peak District. The house has over 30 rooms open to the public along with luxurious furniture and plenty of works of art meaning that there is plenty to see.
If that doesn’t quite satisfy your curiosity, there are also the gardens to explore and restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy a drink or a nice meal.
Crich Tramway Village
While you’re in the Peak District, definitely pay a visit to Crich Tramway Village where you can transport yourself back in time while checking out some of the vintage trams. You can find more information including ticket prices and opening hours on the website here.
Edale
Home to the starting point of the Penine Way walking route, Edale also has some great pubs, cafes and shops for you to enjoy too.
From Edale there are plenty of outdoors activities for you to enjoy too, from walking and mountain biking to more extreme sports like hang gliding and skydiving.
Alternatively, you can also just have a relaxing picnic overlooking the impressive views.
Ride on an Old Steam Train
Between Rowsley South Station and Matlock Platform 2 you can ride an old preserved steam train. This is something that will appeal especially to younger kids so it’s a great family day out.

Gulliver’s Valley Theme Park
For another great family day out, pay a visit to Gulliver’s Valley Theme Park. This theme park is located just outside of the Peak District in South Yorkshire, close to Sheffield.
Across multiple themed areas, you’ll find plenty of attractions for children aged from 2-13.
Cromford Mills
Take a guided tour around Sir Richard Awkwright’s famous Cromford Mills. While you are there you can also spend some time looking around the shops, enjoying the restaurants and cafes and wandering along the canal. For more information, visit the website here.
Castleton
Castleton is an essential part of any Peak District visit. Nestled within the Hope Valley, Castleton is surrounded by spectacular scenery. Castleton also offers easy access to Mam Tor and Kinder Scott if you are in the mood for a hike.
There are plenty of little shops, cafes and pubs to explore within the village. You also have the historic Peveril Castle which overlooks the village.
Winnats Pass
If you are driving through the Peak District, Winnats Pass is definitely worth a detour. Located close to Castleton, Winnats Pass is one of the most famous hill passes in the UK boasting beautiful photogenic scenery.Visiting on a windy day will reveal where this pass gets its name from.
Tideswell
Pay a visit to this charming little historic village. The cathedral in particular is well worth a visit as it dates all the way back to the 14th century! The village is also home to an annual food fair in May where you can sample different delicacies from all over the Peak District. Tideswell is also the perfect place to sit and enjoy a pub at one of the village’s many pubs.
Explore the Manifold Valley
Great for family days out, the Manifold Valley is very easily walkable and cyclable due to its smooth, well maintained track. If you need to rent a bike, there are plenty of rental places in the nearby villages. Manifold Valley is home to the famous Thor’s Cave which itself makes the visit well worth it. There are plenty of rest stops along the way where you can enjoy some refreshments.
Hathersage Swimming Pool
An open air heated swimming pool, Hathersage is suitable almost all year round. The pool is surrounded by nice lawns along with views of the nearby Stanage Edge. The pool also plays host to poolside live concerts throughout the year.
