The area

Lea Bridge is part of the parish of Dethick, Lea and Holloway.

Geographically, it’s located (just) within the borough of Amber Valley, practically on the border of the Derbyshire Dales borough and a few miles of the eastern Peak District border. The nearest towns of any size are Matlock, Alfreton and Chesterfield – while Sheffield, Nottingham, Derby, Buxton, Bakewell and Ashbourne are also relatively close.

The local area is characterised by its gritstone dry stone walls, which change to limestone as you travel towards the plateaus and dales of the White Peak.

The local countryside is gently rolling with a mixture of woodland and open fields.

Nature reserves and wild spaces abound. You can read all about the local wildlife at the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust website.

Lea Bridge has an interesting and varied history, mainly determined by the local industries and the great families who helped to shape the area’s destiny.
