The area is a mecca for road cyclists and mountain-bikers, with any number of wonderful routes on and off the road. Bikes can be hired at Middleton Top on the High Peak Trail and the Parsley Hay centre if you wish to explore the Tissington Trail.
Footpaths criss-cross the countryside for walkers and fell-runners. You can see some information and a footpath map on the parish council website here.
Horseback riding is also popular in the area, and there are many bridleways.
The local gritstone edges are much prized by rock-climbers. Gritstone is sometimes referred to as “God’s own rock” because the rough surfaces provide outstanding friction. More information on rock climbing in the Peak District can be found here.
More esoteric activities include hot air ballooning, hang-gliding, paragliding – or water sports on Carsington Water.
If the weather isn’t conducive to outdoor pursuits, or you simply want a day off, there are lots of local attractions and some interesting shopping ideas.
You’re bound to work up a healthy appetite after a day in the countryside and there are plenty of options for eating and drinking.
